¿Conocíais Mattel Creations? Yo acabo de hacerlo, y os explico. Para celebrar el 75 aniversario de creación de la marca, han lanzado una línea de juegos rediseñados por artistas punteros, donde reinventan juegos clásicos como el UNO o la Barbie.
Nina Chanel Abney es una artista nacida en Chicago, aunque residente en Nueva York con un estilo artístico que se caracteriza por un uso vigoroso del color y de las formas geométricas. La artista define su obra como "Una composición audaz y colorida de figuración y abstracción".
Hasta ahora, la colaboración con artistas para el rediseño de la baraja de UNO se limitaba a plasmar la obra ya creada de Basquiat y Haring, artistas que ya habían fallecido en el momento de la colaboración, la baraja de Nina es la primera donde un artista vivo, y muy fan del juego, rediseña la baraja.
La baraja que propone Nina está llena de personajes ilustrados que expresan emociones según el significado de la carta. Los números y la tipografía se alteran y desordenan, aparecen en distintos tamaños, interletrados, interlineados y alineación. Aunque algo caótico para mi gusto, no se le puede discutir la originalidad y lo llamativo de sus obra. La artista, incluso, ha creado algunas cartas nuevas para añadir más diversión al juego.
Además esta baraja tiene un trasfondo social, ya que se creó en colaboración con Pharrell's Black Ambition, una organización sin ánimo de lucro que proporciona soporte a empresarios negros y latinos que están lanzando tecnología, diseño y atención médica, Mattel proporcionará una donación económica a esta causa.
