Tom Boulton es un impresor y tipógrafo de Reino Unido, desde siempre le ha fascinado imprimir, entintar y ser creativo, durante toda su carrera ha coleccionado multitud de material de impresión como tipos, algunos encontrados en ¡establos de vacas! e imprentas de otros siglos que ha tenido que reparar ya que nunca ha comprado una nueva.
Con todo este material, los últimos años se ha dedicado a dar talleres y enseñar los placeres de la impresión tradicional en distintos lugares y una de las cosas que le ha quedado clarísima, es que las viejas imprentas pesan infinito, así que en 2019 construyó su Franken Press, una imprenta "de bolsillo" fabricada con materiales de reciclaje, con la que poder impartir sus clases sin necesidad de alquilar una grúa.
Y llegó el COVID, el cierre de actividades y el distanciamiento social...
Podría haber sido el fin de sus clases, pero a Tom se le ocurrió, a partir de la experiencia de su Franken Press, que podría fabricar pequeñas imprentas, prácticas y fáciles de transportar para que sus alumnos siguieran sus clases de forma online.
Después de mucho ensayo y error, diseñando y rediseñando, surgió la F-Press, pensada para ser fácil, divertida, utilizable y ligera. imprime en formato DIN A4 y se puede usar con impresión en linóleo junto con tipografía, pesa alrededor de 4 kg.
Tom lanzó su proyecto en crowdfounding alcanzando en 29 días las más de 26.000£ que necesitaba para poner en marcha el plan, su objetivo es fabricarlas el mismo sin necesidad de contar con empresas externas.
De momento solo tendrán F-Press los que colaboraron el crowdfounding, pero seguro que con el interés que ha despertado, pronto pone a la venta más en su cuenta de Etsy en la que de momento vende impresiones. Podéis seguir la evolución del proyecto en sus RR.SS
